This past weekend we traveled to Minnesota to visit my brother. During our three days there, our time was spent in either Hastings, St. Paul, or Minneapolis. Oh yeah, and in the car. We did a lot of driving, but it was all worth it to be able to go everywhere that we did in the short amount of time we were there.
Friday night we had tickets to Wits [featuring Paul F. Tompkins + Aimee Mann] at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul. Before heading to the theater, we stopped at the Jax Building. There are many studios here and my brother has some of his art in a friend’s space.
After eating supper and walking around the city, we still had a little over an hour before the show started. However, it started to get cold and rain so we headed over to the Fitzgerald Theater. We had listened to the Judge John Hodgman podcast on the drive up, so I was a bit afraid we would turn into the guy from Madison who arrives everywhere a few hours early. I was willing to chance it though, since it was only an hour early [not three] and the line was already getting pretty long [plus I was cold!].
The tickets were general admission, so good seats started to fill up fast. Without rushing, pushing, or really even trying, we got second row on the left hand side. I had my camera with me, but I didn’t think I’d be using it. Although, after getting the seats we did and Aimee Mann singing mere feet from us, of course I had to take pictures.
Wits was entertaining – mostly due to both Paul and Aimee. After hearing the show on the radio today, I’m glad we were at the taping as most of the good skits and some of Aimee’s songs were left off [which is understandable since the taping is 2 1/2 hours long, the radio show is 55 minutes].
The rest of the weekend was filled with biking, shopping, and catching up.
And thanks to seeing Aimee perform, I’m now anxiously waiting for September and her new CD.
